Cedar Wood
I have some freshly cut Cedar wood, and would like to preserve its rich red color before it fades to gray-How?
Is there some type of clear stain, or sealer, or something that I can apply to the wood to preserve it’s natural red color?
The wood is mostly going to be indoors, (molding, trim, some furniture). However, if you can suggest something to preserve the wood for either indoors or outdoors, that would be great!
And, if there is something, is it possible to purchase it at Lowe’s/Home Depot type of stores? Thanks!
With the applications you mentioned, I guess this is red cedar, not aromatic cedar. You can try something that blocks UV, but I’m not sure if it would help. I’ve been wanting to find a way to preserve that almost burnt orange color of paduak (“pa-DUKE”) for years (Hook ‘em Horns), but it’s any light that changes the color dark brown, not just UV light.
It sounds like red cedar is different though, and using a UV inhibitor will help. See:
